nKariong
Bush Fire Brigade was formed on the 12th of
September 1946 & was known as Kendall Heights Bush Fire Brigade.
nThe
first appointed Captain was Perce Parry who
applied for equipment through
Gosford Shire Council.
This comprised of
6 x knapsacks, 6 x beaters, 6 x rakes, 1 axe, and a small
engine & pump combined + a 200 gallon tank
nOn
the 10th April
1947 the Brigades name was changed to
Kariong Bush Fire Brigade
n1964
Kariong obtained it’s first fire tanker

May 1965 Kariong’s first Fire Station was Completed at the end
of Dandaloo St.
nIn
recent years years, Kariong participated in many
major campaign fires, some including :
n1986. Kariong fire.
Stopped at Woy Woy road.
nNovember
1988. Kariong bushfire. Encroached on
the new Landcom sub division. Stopped at
Horsefield Bay.
nRidgeway
fire, 1991. Stopped at Forresters Beach.
nThe
horrific 1994 bush fires were a turning point for
the NSW Bush Fire Brigades.
nBush
fire brigades found that they were no longer
just a “bush” fire brigade. They were now
required to be more up-to-date, higher trained, more
professional and better equipped to deal with major incidents.
nKariong
has been at the fore front of significant up-grades
and improvements since then to maintain its position as a highly
trained and motivated brigade and a brigade to be relied on.
nKariong
Rural Fire Brigade is in the
TOP FIVE most
active brigades in NSW.
nWe
not only attend bush fires, we also attend:
nMotor
vehicle accidents. Kariong covers the F3 Freeway from the
Hawkesbury River in the south to Ourimbah Hill in the north.
nStructure
fires, domestic and industrial.
Car and Truck fires
nFlood
and storm damage.
