nKariong Bush Fire Brigade was formed on the 12th of September 1946 & was known as Kendall Heights Bush Fire Brigade.
nThe first appointed Captain was Perce Parry who applied for equipment through Gosford Shire Council. This comprised of
    6 x knapsacks, 6 x beaters, 6 x rakes, 1 axe, and a small engine & pump combined + a 200 gallon tank

nOn the 10th April 1947 the Brigades name was changed to

Kariong Bush Fire Brigade

n1964 Kariong obtained it’s first fire tanker

n11 May 1965 Kariong’s first Fire Station was Completed at the end of Dandaloo St.

nIn recent years years, Kariong participated in many major campaign fires, some including :
n1986. Kariong fire. Stopped at Woy Woy road.
nNovember 1988. Kariong bushfire. Encroached on the new Landcom sub division. Stopped at Horsefield Bay.
nRidgeway fire, 1991. Stopped at Forresters Beach.

nThe horrific 1994 bush fires were a turning point for the NSW Bush Fire Brigades.
nBush fire brigades found that they were no longer just a “bush” fire brigade. They were now required to be more up-to-date, higher trained, more professional and better equipped to deal with major incidents.
nKariong has been at the fore front of significant up-grades and improvements since then to maintain its position as a highly trained and motivated brigade and a brigade to be relied on.

nIn 2000, the old timber fire station was demolished to make way for a new building.
Today, Kariong is housed in a new modern building with a double motor bay, training room, office, kitchenette and  work shop.
