G’day
folks, back again after a little break with more news going around the
Dandaloo St. fire station. Summer is just about a fond memory (well for
some anyway) and the cooler months are slowly approaching. We’ve
started receiving some rain and with
the wet weather come the inevitable car accidents. So again, all
of us are asking you, the motoring public, to be aware of changing
conditions and drive to them. I don’t like to discuss about what
happens at car accidents because some can be pretty traumatic but to put
things into perspective, I will say that as far a fire fighter is
concerned, when you arrive at one there’s always confusion, broken
motor vehicles, broken people and broken lives. You try not to get too
tied up with the people involved but sometimes it happens and you see
the shattered expressions of mum, dad and the kids surveying all their
belongings strewn over the road and God forbid any injuries.....or
worse. It gets harder when you have ambos trying to work on someone who
is in bad shape, casualties crying, cops trying to keep it all together
and sort things out and the
poor old firie right in the middle of it all giving fire protection and
helping where possible. Yup, it’s not a pretty sight so do us all a
favour, drive carefully and arrive safe. One of
Kariongs finest has left for greener pastures. Darren Robinson has gone
south and we all wish the best to him and his family. Looks like the CFA
will be getting an asset to their ranks. Kariongs’
fund raising efforts are developing quite nicely. We’ve been involved
with Clints Crazy Bargains, Gosford in an Easter project. A guessing
competition with three great prizes up for grabs. First prize is a
barrow full of goodies worth a grand. Second is another barrow worth
five hundred bucks and third is an Easter basket worth two fifty. Drawn
on the 19th of April so I’ll keep informed on winners. Congrats
to Aaron (pex) Medina for achieving all that is holy in the world of
chainsaws, “Specialist in Fire Line tree Felling”. Finally, yours
truly is putting out an invitation to Kariong community members who have
the desire to put out some fire. Anyone wishing to join our ranks as
volunteers in a worthwhile and valid organisation will receive training
and instruction, a uniform and personal satisfaction that they are
participating in the protection and well being of their fellow community
members. We are in station Wed. nights from 7.30pm or on Sat. mornings
from 7.30am. Come on up, have a cuppa and we’ll have a chat about you
being a volunteer. Seeya.
