KARIONG RURAL FIRE SERVICE NEWSLETTER by
Standpipe G’day
folks, back again with some more news from the Dandaloo st. fire
station. Well, since I wrote last, there’s been some fire activity
cropping up around the Yattalunga area near Davistown and Rumbullara
reserve near the Private Hospital. RFS and NSW Fire Brigades attended
and managed to get ‘em wrapped-up quickly and thankfully, we’ve been
experiencing some welcome cooler wet weather so that should keep a lid
on that sort of stuff for a while. While we’re on the subject of wet
weather, please do all emergency services personnel a big favour and
DRIVE TO THE CONDITIONS and WATCH YOUR SPEED. This applies everywhere
including Langford Drive, Kariong. Yours truly is astounded at the
number of times I’ve witnessed cars of all sizes “hooning” up and
down this busy road with no regard to the safety and well being of
themselves and fellow road users. Sadly, patience and common sense has
been replaced by haste and thoughtlessness and regrettably
accidents culminate because of these actions. So, SLOW DOWN!!!! OK,
I’m over that, on to something else. Did someone say “cooler
months”? Yup, winter is just around the corner so do your checks. The
trusty old three bar heater will making a triumphant return to the
living room, so check the power chord for fraying and if anything looks
dodgy, get a licensed electrician check it out. Got a gas heater you
say. OK, same thing, check it out and if you suspect all is not right
get a licensed gas fitter to check all connections and little “doovy
whatsits” that’s inside them to make sure they’re safe to do the
job. Kariong winters are legendary so be prepared. News
from the fund raising committee has it that an Easter raffle is in the
pipes in conjunction with Clints Crazy Bargains, Gosford. Not sure on
all the details so I’ll keep you posted on that one. A few
people have been approaching us with the view of joining our band of
happy campers. If you wish to do the same, come up to the Dandaloo st.
fire station either Wednesday night after 7.30pm or Saturday morning
after 8.00am and have a chat with us. You’ll be joining a community
organisation committed to protecting the public from fire and having the
self satisfaction that you can make a difference. OK,
that’s it for this month. Stay safe.
