G'day all. Back again with some more news from Kariong Rural Fire
Brigade.
Well,it's been another low key month luckily with little fire activity
and
what ever there
was, was in the shape of hazard reduction burns. We also had the odd car
accident or two, a couple of oil spills and one or two false alarms but
generally it was a quiet
month for Kariong standards.
I'm guessing that you have noticed the weather is starting to get a
little
cooler and with that, brings me to the subject of heaters, electric
blankets, slow combustion heaters and gas heaters. You've heard me say
this
every year; get these appliances checked for serviceability. You know
the
drill- worn-out plugs and leads, frayed cords, worn out connections and
lines and dirty flues all need attention this time of
year so, "get off yer duff" and get into it. Call your friendly licensed
gas
fitter or electrician to get the job done and don't try to do it
yourself.
It's better to be safe than sorry. Also, just another little tip, make
sure
your house number is easily seen from the road. Firemen aren't mind
readers
you know and they haven't got infra-red night vision either so make sure
that house number is well sighted.
If by chance you do need the fire services remember, keep cool, ring
000,
tell them what's going on, answer all their questions and DON'T HANG UP
TILL
THEY TELL
YOU TO. Lastly, check your smoke alarm, make sure it works and test it
weekly.
Remember, they're not ceiling ornaments or annoying little noise makers,
smoke alarms save lives so look after it! If you've got any questions or
dramas, drop into your nearest fire station and get the low-down on what
you
need to do this winter to keep yourself safe and all warm and toasty.
As previously mentioned, the RFS is now involved in hazard reductions
around
the Central Coast so when the weather permits, crews will be out there
doing
these burnsin preparation for the following summer.Kariong will be
involved
in the opening of the new Warehouse store in Market Town,Gosford on the
12th
of May. The Warehouse is one of Kariong RFS' significant
supporters in conjuction with our annual fund raising efforts usually
around
Christmas time. They're re-locating to bigger and better premises in
Market
Town
and we'll be there flying the flag, sizzling snags and showing-off some
of
our gear down there. So, if you're in town doing some shopping come on
over
and grab a
sausage sanga, have chat and see what the Warehouse has got on. Since
it's
"Grand Opening" day, you'll get some bargains for sure.
Remember, our station is open on Wednesday nights from 7.30 pm and
Saturday
mornings from 8.00am. If you want to come up and have a chat or just see
the
station
and how we go about things or want to enquire about joining the
organisation, just pop-up. We're in Dandaloo St. near the Progress Hall
and
tennis courts off Woy Woy
road. If you're still not sure, give Gosford Fire Control a call on 4340
2911 and they'llbe more than happy to give you all the details.
That's it for now folks. Stay safe and I'll seeya next issue.
