G'day folks, back yet again with more hot goss from
Kariong Rural Fire Brigade for
this month. First of all on behalf of the brigade, we hope you all had a
top Christmas
and had a great start to the new year. Well, I've got a bit to tell you
about so I'd better get into it.Luckily for us, the weather has been a
mixed bag with no protracted heat and
not agreat deal of rain to speak about. The few hot days that we did
have didn't have any
major problems with it in terms of fire activity, with just a few odd
occurrences that
cropped up. Which is a blessing in disguise really considering the
problems they're
having in Western Australia and South Australia which leads me to the
next issue. As
you may have seen or heard on the news services how these fires may have
started,
either by accident or some allegedly on purpose prompts me to ask a
great favour. If
you do witness unusual activity such as someone leaving somewhere in a
hurry and
then all of a sudden you see smoke or flame, please call the police or
Crime Stoppers
on 1800 333 000 and give your details. Arsonists are one of the lowest
form of
existence and need to be put out of action quickly and decisively and
the police can
only do it with your help, so keep that one in mind.
Operationally speaking, Kariong received a third vehicle to its fleet in
the form a
troop carrier. It is designed for the movement of fire fighting
personnel and
equipment and will prove to be a great asset to the brigade. Also, any
resident of
Kariong who has ever entertained the idea of being a part of the Rural
Fire Service
can come up to the station on any Wednesday night from 7.30pm on or
Saturday
mornings from 8.00am on to have a chat with the guys and gals to get an
insight into
the service. So don't be shy, pop-up and bring the kids, they'll get a
kick out of it as well.
We also completed our Christmas raffle in December. The three winners
came from
the Kincumber, Avoca and Kariong areas and were thrilled to bits when we
presented
them with their prizes. Proceeds from that venture are going to be used
for purchasing
equipment, station up-keep and improvements and while we're on the
subject may I
also add a great thanks to all that bought tickets and supported us
during the project.
A very big ONYA for that one.
For those with access to the net, Kariong has its own web site. So if
you'd like to have
a bit of a "sticky" into our business the address is:
kariongrfs.netfirms.com and get
the latest low-down on what the brigade is all about. In the site you
will find brigade
history and how a bunch of locals banded together to form a rudimentary
brigade then
known as Kendal Heights Bushfire Brigade. To technical stats on our
vehicles and
equipment and a list of officers and office bearers. There is also
operational news, fire
danger, links to other great sites and of course yours truly has a spot
so you can get
this newsletter early. Go on and check it out, you'll like it.
OK folks, that's about it for now. Stay safe and I'll catch up with you
next
issue.
