G’Day folks. I’m back for the
New Year with news from Kariong Rural Fire Brigade. Well it looks
like the “big heat” has missed us this year so far thankfully with
all the action down south in Victoria and South Australia. The usual
conditions we up here contend with around this time of year have
plagued our southern cousins. I think that, if you’ve experienced
fire like we in Kariong have, then I guess you’d have to say that
your heart goes out to those that suffered. None the less, most fire
fighters on the Central Coast actually made it to Christmas dinner
this time with not a wiff of smoke in the air which by the way,
included New Years eve as well!
Our Christmas Eve “Santa Run”
which by the way, has turned into a bit of an annual tradition, was
a great success this time around. It’s great to see the kids faces
light up when the trucks come around with Santa and his “elves”
tossing lollies on a warm balmy afternoon. Even the not-so-little
kids got into the act. It’s one of those rare good old fashioned
things that happen in Kariong that we hope will continue for a long,
long time.
Operationally speaking, due to
a lot of wet weather, car accidents were the order of the day with
Kariong attending quite a few of those over the end of year break.
There was one small out break of bush alight on the northern side of
town and one or two care fires to break up the day a bit. On another
operational note, we’ve had several enquiries from members of the
general public on how to join the RFS. It’s easy! If you are
interested in joining Kariong RFB then pop-up any Wednesday night
from 8pm or Saturday morning from 8am to the fire station in
Dandaloo St (next to the tennis courts on Woy Woy Rd) Just “rock-up”
and have a yarn to any of the crew and we’ll sort you out. We’re
always on the look out for locals who are interested in being
involved in a community based organisation run and crewed by locals.
Onto other brigade matters.
The next project we need to tackle is repairing the driveway in
front of the station. After all the heavy rain that we’ve
experienced, a lot of it has washed away in parts leaving deep ruts.
Again, the cost of this will be borne by the brigade and will
require a significant expenditure of brigade funds to do the job
properly. The brigade is seeking any support from the public whether
it is financial or material to get this work completed. If you or
anyone else is in a position to assist us, please contact us on 02
43401694 and leave your details. Any offers will be greatly
appreciated.
And lastly, the littlest
Standpipe has turned one year old in January. Onya Josh, Kathryn and
baby Abbi.
That’s it for now folks.
