Hi all. I'm back again with some more snippets of news from Kariong
Rural
Fire Brigade. Well, first off we've had our AGM in early June at the
Dandaloo Street fire station and this year's office bearers are as
follows:
Captain, Nathan Evans. Sen. Deputy, Mal. Smit. Deputies, Don Simpson,
Rob
Sterling and Geoffrey Watson. President, Barry Myers. Vice President,
Dave
Thomas. Secretary, Alex. Van Der Loo. Treasurer Chelsea Buckley.
Station
Officer Maintenance and Equipment, Graham Garay. BA Officer, Mal Smit.
Training Officer, Alan Oxford. Assistant Training Officer, Geoff.
Watson.
Publicity Officer, Rob Sterling. OH&S and Safety Officer, Roanne
Mossman.
Fund raising Officer, Roanne Mossman.
So there you have it for 2006-2007. A mixture of youthful exuberance and
experience. The meeting was well attended by the membership as well as
being
attended by senior officers from Gosford Fire Control notably Steve
Marsh
FCO 1. Ian Bartholomew FCO2 as well as group captains Glen Howe, Ken
Dymock
and Phil Williams.
OK, got all that out of the way and now onto something different. Not a
lot
going on in terms of fire activity. However it is getting considerably
colder lately as you all may have noticed and I would guess that the
trusty
old heater has made its grand entrance for the cold season. Either that
or
someone has been busy chopping and stacking wood for the fire. It
doesn't
really matter what heater you have, the common thing for all of them is
to
make sure that they are up to the job and by that I mean serviceability.
I've mentioned this before about no broken elements, no frayed chords or
dodgy plugs and with a fire heater make sure the flue is clean and
clear.
This goes for any other heating device such as electric blankets for
example. Do yourself a favour and check them and if in any doubt get a
licensed electrician or technician to check them.
Finally, have you got your smoke detector installed yet? If so great
good
onya! If not why not? Folks I cannot emphasise on how important these
little
devises are especially during winter time. As I've said in the past, for
the
price of a couple of cappuccinos you can get yourself a basic model that
can
give some peace of mind. It doesn't replace vigilance over your heating,
cooking and electrical appliances but it is part of your overall home
safety
plan. Don't muck about with this one folks. Get down to the hardware
shop if
you haven't got one yet and, "get it and install it!" Remember, it's now
law.
That's it for now folks. Remember, stay safe and be Firewise.
