G'Day all, back again with some more news from Kariong Rural Fire
Brigade.
Firstly, our Open Day on the 8th of October was quite a success with
lots of
interested people passing through to see what we were all about.
Everyone
received an info pack that contained Firewise fire safety tips, stuff
about
the service and some goodies for the kids. A dozen or so locals put
their
name down to join up commenting at the time that the RFS has been
something
that they've thought about for a while and this was a good opportunity
to do
something for the community. Of course, the jumping castle copped a good
work out and our face painting clown was put to the test with lots of
faces
of fire, batboys and batgirls. Over all, the day was judged a success by
those who attended and we even made the six o'clock news with an article
on
RFS Open Days in general with the footage being shot a Kariong.
Interestingly enough, Kariong was called to a bushfire just after the
last
visitor left the station and this was on a "total fire ban day" Let me
tell
you folks, the law gets really serious when it comes to someone
deliberately
lighting fires and even more so on "toban" days (total fire ban days).
If
you are caught in the act of arson you can expect the full weight of the
law
to come down on you "like a ton of bricks" and they're not those little
trendy bricks either. They're big fellas about the size of a Besser
block!
You can guarantee a hefty fine of up to $5,500 and some gaol time thrown
in
like up to 14 years, for good measure if convicted. Folks if you see
anyone
behaving strangely near the bush and in particular on hot days, do all
the
firies on the Central Coast a huge favour and ring the boys in blue.
Ring
CRIME STOPPERS on 1800 333 000 and give 'em the details.
Ok, enough of all that. Here's some fund raising news that I've been
promising to tell you about. Our annual Christmas raffle will kick off
around the start of November and there are some beaut prizes up for
grabs
this year. First prize is a 6x4 trailer with rego chock-a-block with a
mower, leaf blower and vacuum kit, kids toys and household goodies.
Second
prize is a 68cm colour TV with surround sound thrown in. Tickets are $2
each
or 3 for $5 and you can have a gander at the whole show at the Warehouse
in
Gosford Town Centre. All the guys will be out selling tickets down in
Gosford or maybe in your street so look out for them and buy a ticket to
support a great local community organisation.
That's it for now. Seeya next issue and stay safe.
