KARIONG RFS NEWS LETTER
20/01/04
G'day folks, nice to be back after the Christmas break. I hope you all
had a
safe and happy festive time and everything worked out well for you.
It would appear
that we were lucky this time around with the fire situation, with no
major fires in
the Gosford district, not like Sydney's northern beaches or Dubbo for
that matter. Local crews were sent to Terry Hills in early January for a
job there and logistics personnel went to Dubbo to help out with their
problems. So it maybe quiet around here but all the same, don't let your
guard down and get complacent. Check that you've done all that
is necessary for peace of mind such as your garden hose serviceability,
gutters clean and clear, an evacuation plan in place, all clutter away
from the house and your smoke detector is working (it's not a ceiling
ornament, you know !!)
Kariong also completed its fund raising project for last Christmas in
conjunction with the "Warehouse" in Gosford. A tidy sum was raised with
a Mrs G. Walker of
Gosford winning the prize of the big tele and all the goodies going with
it. Mrs
Walker just bought tickets to support the Kariong Rural Fire Brigade and
wasn't that concerned about the prize, but you should have seen her face
when we turned-up to her place with all the stuff. Funny thing though,
it's surprising how many rellies turn-up when they hear that you've won
something good. Anyway, she was one happy lady that day. |
Yours truly must be suffering a bout of forgetfulness lately with
another remiss. It was brought to my attention that another one of
our mob was awarded the National Medal at the recent medal ceremony held
at Gosford RSL. This guy is a real quiet achiever and doesn't say much,
he just lets his ability do all his talking for him. With twenty years
plus service behind him why shouldn't he? I'm talking about our own
Craig Royal. ONYA Craig.
Don't forget folks, we're always on the look-out for new members to
join the RFS team. The Dandaloo St station is open Wednesday nights from
7.30pm and Saturday mornings from 8.00am for training. If you've been
thinking of joining or are just curious, just come on up, bring the kids
and let 'em have a look at the trucks. You never know, that one visit
might inspire them to join a fire service one day, so don't be shy, pop
up and see us some time and have a chat. Your future with a worthwhile
community based organisation could be literally around the corner so
don't hesitate.
OK folks, that's it for now. Seeya next issue.
