March 2008 G’Day Crazy Characters of Kariong… I’m back with the news from Kariong Rural Fire Brigade for this month. Firstly, I would like to bring you back to last months addition where in which we were seeking financial and material support to carry out “Operation Driveway Repair” in order to fix the deep ruts impeding the brigade in carrying out its operations. A big thank you goes out to the guys and gals from Roy Lamb the Sand Man who have generously donated the road base component needed to undertake these repairs. Roy Lamb the Sand Man has been supplying the public and the local building trade on the Central Coast with the best quality and value for money bulk landscape and building products for over 25 years. Kariong Rural Fire Brigade is currently seeking assistance in the areas of hot mix / bitumen, financial assistance or human resources in order to complete the driveway project. If you are in a position to assist please contact the brigade on (02) 4340 1694 and pass on your details. Remember folks, all assistance is appreciated so get behind your local fiery’s and help us help you! Operationally speaking, the brigade has had another busy month in February with 22 calls in total. Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA’s) taking the cake with 12 calls, 2 bush fire calls, 4 car fires, 3 automatic fire alarms (AFA’s) and the most memorable being a boat fire…luckily enough occurring on land and not while on the water. Adding to this, Kariong Brigade took part in a National Parks and Wildlife hazard reduction burn during this past week which resulted in a great success…Well Done to all who took part!! A warm welcome goes out to Scott, Melissa and Christine (Chris) who have joined as new members of Kariong Rural Fire Brigade and a big welcome back to Craig who brings with him a vast portfolio of experience… we are glad to have you back mate! If you are looking to take a leap and learn some new skills, while getting involved in a fun, exciting and rewarding community based organisation, pop up to the station on either Saturday mornings from 8am or Wednesday nights from 7.30pm and have a chat to the guys and gals. Congratulations go out to Jeremy Morris and Russell Topp who passed their basic fire fighting course this month. Wrapping it up for this addition, I thought I would leave you with a little joke to put a smile on your dials. A lady was filling her tank at a
petrol station, smoking a cigarette, even though all the signs say not
to. The fumes that came out of the fuel tank ignited, severely burning
her hands. But it also lit up her arm, too!
